As one of the most successful female acts in contemporary British popular culture, Little Mix have secured a Brit Award, two MTV European Music Award’s and two Glamour Awards since they shot to fame after winning the X Factor in 2011. The girls are kicking off their UK arena tour tonight at Liverpool Echo Arena, before heading to Newcastle where American, pop singer-songwriter Aleem will be joining them! As well as working with the likes of Scott Harris, who has worked with Shawn Mendes and Jessie J, Aleem supported Fifth Harmony on their hugely successful UK arena tour last year.
When we chatted to Aleem he had just been recording some new music in the studio, spending his time preparing for the Little Mix tour and the release of his new single ‘So Damn Good’…
Hi Aleem! So how did the Little Mix tour come about?
I am represented by an amazing agency in the UK by the name of Leighton-Pope. They presented an incredible opportunity to join Little Mix as their main support and everything seemed to just fall into place. I am honoured that Little Mix has chosen to have me alongside them to share their stage!
What are you most excited about for the tour?
I love playing for the fans. Every night is different and I love experiencing the energy that each crowd brings to a show. It’s also a pleasure to be able to meet the fans after shows and share a moment with them.
You’ve been to the UK before, do you like it here?
I do! Great culture, amazing people and food!
What do you love most about it?
I love learning about the history of this country as well as seeing how much of a melting pot cities like London, Manchester etc are for so many different ethnicities.
You’re coming to Manchester on the 21st and 22nd, what do you think of it?!
It’s a beautiful city! Looking forward to exploring some more.
For our readers who’re discovering you for the first time, how would you best describe your music?
I’d say my sound is soulful, singer/songwriter pop.
Who would you compare yourself to in the industry?
It’s tough to compare yourself because as an artist you strive to be unique and introduce a new element of music to the masses. If I had to choose, I’d say my sound is very similar to that of Charlie Puth’s or Shawn Mendes.
Who are your biggest music inspirations?
Bruno Mars, The Script, John Mayer.
What was it like supporting Fifth Harmony on their tour last year?
It was absolutely incredible! They are such amazingly talented humans and it was an honour to share the stage with the girls every night. They have a die hard fan base and it was truly a pleasure to share my music with them!
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I can definitely picture myself with a Grammy by then! 😉
